Counselling Based in Torbay

Is counselling for you?

The aim of counselling is to give you the opportunity to explore and discuss personal and relational issues in a confidential and safe environment. The therapeutic relationship supports and encourages self-awareness and discoveries about oneself. In allowing ourselves to be seen and heard we may promote a healthy wellbeing and growth within ourselves. Sometimes you may feel worse before you feel better due to you making changes in your life and dealing with difficult and painful issues.

About me and the counselling I provide

I specialise working with loss, grief and bereavement with adults, young people, children and families. I have been a qualified counsellor for 14 years and a supervisor for 4 years. My background is working in schools and family support within Sure center Children Centres. I work within my own private practice and trained as an integrative counsellor. This means integrating different models and methods within the therapy. I work in a person-centred approach mainly whilst integrating other methods such as, T.A, gestalt, C.B.T and others that may support the client. I work with issues such as anxiety, depression, loss, stress, bereavement, personal development, self-esteem, self-harm and parenting issues. I also work with a local charity called Children and Families in Grief and provide emotional support for carers in Torbay.

I am a very calm and empathetic counsellor and believe very much in the process of the relationship between the client and the counsellor and the baring this has on bringing about positive change. I understand each client is an individual and will have a very different story. I respect this and work towards building a place where the clients feel comfortable to hear their own voice and work on development of the skills and resources they already hold in order to support themselves in future endeavours.

I am a warm and friendly person and believe that counselling can also allow and give time to celebrate the joys, excitement and fun in life when they come up in order to have a balance and normality within the counselling relationship.

As a member of the NCPS I abide by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and the values and principle that are practiced within this.
